Huh.
So my good intentions of regular updating kind of fell out the window, smashed into the pavement, shattered into a thousand pieces, were swept up by a street-sweeper, taken to the nearest landfill, dumped in and were never heard of again...

Or something.

Anyway, another two installments on Olding's battle with Bureaucracy are released this week in the next parts of To My Darling Fluffy.

Watch out in the next couple of weeks for the opening of 'Lt Pete Barfoot and the Case of the Missing Coffee Percolator'. Also, coming very soon (I hope) is the next episode of the Cholmondely-Smythe Year!

I will update next week, really.

Regular Updates
We're going to be trying to maintain the regular update schedule we managed to keep going for a while before Christmas. Anyone care to place any bets as to how long this is going to last?

Today, Olding's struggles against Starfleet bureaucracy in parts three and four of The Memo Years: To My Darling Fluffy.

That's all for this week!

Kind of typical of us, really
Livejournal goes down, preventing us from being able to write up a full update in this here journal so what do we do? We do an update. Typical.

Anyway, LJ is back up now (obviously) so I thought I'd better fill you in on what we did yesterday. There's an entirely new section on the Stories Page. This week sees the release of the first pieces of correspondence in ST Psycho: The Memo Years. This is going to be a series of memos sent between some of our main characters and diverse others as they attempt to solve some of the little niggling problems you never hear about in the main stories, and can take place at any time in the Psycho Timeline. Captain Olding starts the ball rolling with a requisitions nightmare on DS13 in To My Darling Fluffy.

In other news this page has been updated, as you've probably already seen, with a few up-coming stories that we're working on but have no specific release dates for as yet. We're soryry there haven't been many updates on here recently, but we're going to make an attempt to rectify that as quickly as possible. A few other cosmetic alterations to the Academy Page, and some addition entries have been put into the Psycho Chronology. !!Warning: Contains Spoilers For All Series!!

That's it, watch out for more memos in the upcoming weeks!

Needless to say, we took a Christmas break and I discovered the true meaning of christmas...ok, actually the phrase "Nobody does anything at work over christmas" but that's kinda the same, right?

For the first time in several weeks, I opened my HTML editor and discovered I had been in the middle of something last year. But I don't know anymore! :) Still I have started on some php code now, and the others are still writing new material (right guys? XD) that we'll be bringing to you.

From the site logs we see that there are a number of people reading the stories (in between the site getting crawled by search engines and some...odd search terms :), so I wanted to say thanks for stopping by! If you like the stories, drop a note in whatever communities you frequent where you think people would like them. Or let us know (leave a comment! mail us!), and we'll go along and grin maniacally at people till they come visit. XD

Sorry about the lack of updates...
...but we've been working behind the scenes, I promise! (Note the lack of any word resembling 'industriously' in that sentence.)

Seriously, nowls has been beavering away on the downloads, and also some of the other changes you've already seen on the site. He's also, long term. working on something quite exciting that no-one except us will appreciate. But hey, it'll still be cool, nonetheless!

As for the stories, bart_vimes and I (yes, that's right, the third and final member of our little triumvirate now has a journal and may even occasionally be enticed to write an update or two on here) have, erm, been writing, albeit a little slowly. Coming soon (hopefully) will be the fourth in the Jackson/Stark Academy Series and the next Cholmondely-Smythe Adventure. Be patient! We're currently working on a major update to the Crew Page which will delve a little more deeply into the characters' careers in Starfleet, such as they are...

Also, we have something a little different planned to allow us to update a little more often, though not necessarily with stories as you might think of them. Intrigued? Watch this space!

Have a great Christmas, and we'll see you all in the New Year!

Tech update v2.12
The template for the stories has changed a little and I'll be replicating some of that change through the rest of the pages over the next few weeks as appropriate. (No really, I've nearly finished Half-Life 2!).

- Already the image sizes for the titles and the saucer in the top right have been reduced over the entire site. They looked fine at the resolutions me and Mel use (1280x1024 and occasionally 1600x1200, if you're interested) but they were rediculously huge on 1024x768 and so got cut to 66% size.

- The stories have now got a new bar that contains Previous and Next links, a link back to the main page for each series (with some new synopses coming in!) and a currently not-enabled Download This Story link. Starting with the new stories, I'll be adding in these links as I upload the necessary files. You'll be able to download each story as a separate zip file to read offline!

- There used to be a Quick Nav drop-down box on each story that had a list of stories in that series. It's been removed as the way it was coded meant only people with javascript could use it and it couldn't use the same data as the main menus.

- Some changes to the Stylesheet that shouldn't be noticed. I hope. XD

That behind-the-scenes work may have taken a slight scheduling hit due to unforseen Half-Life 2 related circumstances. I promise, I am working on it though!

Behind the scenes
Hi everyone!

We've got a few things going on behind the scenes at the moment, so it's possible you'll notice a few changes around here, some of which may not seem to be particularly permanent. This is because we're working to improve the way the site can be navigated, as well as hopefully improving the look a little. Plus, when complete the changes should mean that all your favourite stories will be even easier to download!

Enough with the boring stuff, I hear you cry. What you're all looking for is a new story, right? Well this week we give you Psychotic Academy: Chapter 3, Part 3: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and a Late Snack at Tiffany's (Is it just me, or are these titles getting longer?) Follow the further exploits of Stark and Jackson as they continue on the paths that made them the officers we know today!

See you next time!

Somewhat of a milestone
Hi all,

As it says, this update is somewhat of a milestone in the life of this site. This week (finally) sees the release of the final Continuing Mission! Jackson's past, Wall's present and the fates of diverse others all meet in an exciting climax aboard the Federation's largest data storage facility, Memory Alpha. This story also sees the return of yet another familiar face. Intrigued? Then read Between an Asteroid and a Hard Place.

We've enjoyed getting this far, hope you have too! And it's not over yet, we promise...

My humblest apologies...
But Friday's update has been delayed due to the simple fact that Friday night I was drunk beyond the realms of staying upright, let alone edit html files! The rest of the weekend has also been pretty busy what with work and fireworks displays to attend, so I'm going to say the next update, which will see the conclusion of the Continuing Missions, will go live on Tuesday.

Remind me to never mix bitters and champagne again, whill you?

Update at last!
Apologies to everyone for this one, but I was way too tired on Sunday night to get the update done, I didn't get home until late and I had to get up for work the next morning so the update got put on the backburner... then Monday evening was also taken up by real life, so... yeah.

Anyway, without further ado, here it is: the second installment in the concluding trilogy of the Continuing Missions series. This time, as the crew of the USS Psycho try to discover exactly what it was that caused the events of Tangled Web, on board the USS Lobotmoy Commander Wall is having a rather hectic day... Could the two situations be linked in some way? Find out in The Good, the PADD and the Ugly!

This week's update will go ahead as planned on Friday evening, I promise. :D

Minor Tech Update
It's totally behind the scenes, so minor for everyone except me (and Mel, cos he's not going to know what the hell I've done XD). The old script file that generated the menus (not the one that actually ran them - which is a very nice script from youngpup.net) was very large due to a lot of repeated content. I've just re-written it so it's got some semblance of optimization, taking it down to about third of its size. Which means marginly quicker load times for you and a geeky sense of satisfaction for me as it was somehow accounting for about 15% of our traffic. o_0

I'm off to watch Tim Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas... Happy Halloween everyone! Mel'll be along tomorrow evening to update, but don't let that scare you ;D

Late Update this week
Hey everyone, just a quick note to let you know that due to me not being anywhere near my computer this weekend, this week's update won't be posted until Sunday evening at the earliest. Sorry about that! I know, I know, how dare I have a life outside of this site, right?

In the meantime, here's a little excerpt from the up-coming story, the continuation of the story begun in Tangled Web, "The Good, the PADD and the Ugly."

"USS Lobotomy, First Officer's Log, Supplemental.

Our itininerery for the PADD distribution is as follows: Nine thousand PADDs to Lemal II, five thousand to Hadleigh Station, one thousand to the USS Chesney and the final five thousand to be delivered to Memory Alpha, where I will be meeting up with an old friend. So far all appears to be going smoothly. Wow! That sounded nearly professional, I'm getting better at this!"

The Lobotomy took up orbit around Lemal II, an uninteresting small planet in the Kaja system. Captain Critchley was sat in the command chair, Wall beside him.
"Hurry up then Commander," Critchley said brusquely, "the sooner we get this done, the sooner we can get out of here. Don't see why it take a starship to dot his anyway..."
"Yes sir," Wall stood and tried to do an imitation of Hill at his most first-officerish, hands on hips, legs akimbo, head tilted slightly back. Unfortunately Hill was not the best person to study for this sort of thing and, while he managed to make it look reasonable, Wall just looked a bit silly. "Wall to Cargo Transporter One."
"Cargo One here."
"Energise."
There was a moment of silence, and then the chief manning the transporter came back on. "Uh, the transporter won't work sir. Apparently one of the system buffers is on the blink. It means none of the transporters will work, sorry."
Wall's eyes lit up. "Get those PADDs down to the shuttle bay, I'm taking a shuttle!"

The PADDs loaded, taking up every available space, Wall prepared to pilot the shuttle down to the planet. Lieutenant Cross was joining him, taking the co-pilot's seat. They lifted off relatively smoothly, dislodging only one of the crates. The shuttle sped out of the bay and headed for the planet. Wall has having too much fun being back at the controls of a shuttle again and Cross was still annoyed with him for what he had said earlier, so the flight passed in silence, until they had just entered the atmosphere.
"Uh oh," Wall tapped hesitantly at his controls.
"What do you mean, ‘Uh oh'," Lieutenant Cross demanded.
"Well, there's good news and bad news," Wall told her, as she noticed that the ground was approaching rather fast. "The bad news is we've lost the engines."
"And the good news?"
"Ah, well, I kinda lied about there being good news."
The shuttle plunged towards the ground, and Wall realised that without its engines the vessel was supremely badly designed for atmospheric flight. At this point, even a parachute would be welcome.
"Don't worry!" Wall said manically, "I've done this lots of times before!"
He fired the underside thrusters in an attempt to slow their descent and aimed them for the spaceport.
"Kaja Spaceport to shuttle Cerebellum, please adjust your rate of descent."
"Cerebellum here, don't you think I would if I could!!" Wall responded.
"Ah."
"You got it!"
"Please hold."
"Hold?!?"

Find out what happens to Commander Wall in 'The Good, the PADD and the Ugly', coming soon!

I didn't think I'd get to this...
Bit of a late update today, real life got in the way and I very nearly abandoned this to go to bed as absolutely none of the prep work had been done prior to posting. Unsurprisingly, I found myself still sat at my computer so I thought 'What the hell' and knuckled down to it...

This week sees the start of something fairly important in the Psycho universe. Released this week is Tangled Web, the latest in the Continuing missions series. In it the truth about Dr. Jackson's past is revealed, with consequences that could reverberate around the Federation. This story marks the beginning of the end of the Continuing missions!

See you next week!

I swear I should've done this last Friday...
The download for The Cholomondely-Smythe Year has been updated to include Countenance Of The Foe. I was going to say I'd let melarocco poke me with sharp sticks if I left the update this long again but he actually would if I did (and he'd enjoy it), so...

I thought I'd give you some idea where we're going with the downloads. If everything goes according to plan, the actual download page is going to be far more comprehensive. I'm working on allowing you to select whichever stories you want from a series and download them as a zip file. So if you wanted just parts 1, 6, and 10 from Psycho 1, all you'd have to do is check 3 boxes and press "Download". We're also looking at having "Download this story" links on each individual story for quick-and-easy downloading.

Give me 5 minutes to learn PHP first though. XD

Late again...
Hi all,

Yes I'm late this week, but I have a reason! Changes were still being made to the new story at the very last minute so, well, that's just the way it goes sometimes, I guess.

Anyway, this week we have another installment of the Cholmondely-Smythe Year. Counsellor Hill has a very bad day when she wakes up in possibly the last place she expected to be, and Lieutenant-Commander Wall's day isn't much better when he inherits something... rather unexpected. All is revealed in Countenance of the Foe!

Another week, another update.
Hi there everyone!

Something a little bit different for you all this week, as for the first time in quite a long time, we have a new story in the Psychotic Academy series. The admittedly non-Academy oriented exploits of Stark and Jackson continue in the second chapter of The Doc, the Cook, His Mousse and Their Adventures: New Life, New Civilisations and an Iceberg Lettuce.

That's it for the story updates this week. As you've probably noticed nowls has been making a couple tweaks here and there recently with the Downloads page. Hopefully it's now easier for you to download all your favourite Psycho stories for easy reading at your own leisure!

Who wants another update?
We're getting through our backlog of stories at a rather alarming rate here, and I've just realised there's only two more weeks before Countenance of the Foe has to be released and it's still in Production... ooh err...

Anyway... *clear throat*

This week on Star Trek: Psycho, while Captain Cholmondely-Smythe and Counsellor Hill are still settling in a rather strange occurrence sees the return of someone unexpected... Find out more in the new Cholmondely-Smythe adventure, Yesterday's Extreme!

Next time, the Jackson/Stark Academy series continues!

Downloads
Due to a slight problem (ok, the truth is we forgot) the Continuing Missions downloads are just a little out of date. Currently only the first three stories out of six are in the zip files and I don't have the source files necessary to be able to fix this before you could say "Move along, nothing to see here!".
With any luck it'll be fixed along with the next update on the 24th. Then again, if you knew me you wouldn't believe that! XD

EDIT [00:22 25-Sep-2004]
Told you! XD
For various reasons, we're going to chage the format of the downloads from a choice of text or rtf to just html. Mostly it means less work for us, and less hassle for you. And since you're already viewing html pages here, noone has to worry about file types! :) We do have an agreed on template, and we'll start moving the content over shortly.

Don't forget to check out the update Mel posted above!

Has it been a week already?
Okay guys and gals, here's the update for this week. After the flurry of new stories released over the last couple of weeks we're easing off on the throttle for the next month and a bit, to just one story a week unless we're feeling generous :)

The next story in the Continuing missions series is posted this week, by regular author Charlie Wall. Barfoot has to come up with a solution to a planet's imminent civil war in Diplomatic Overtures.

Enjoy, and I'll see you next week!

Technical Update: Version 2.10
After 8.5hrs (o_0) of procrastination, we've finally decided to leave the embedded updates page alone and get some sleep. I would be making this update tomorrow morning, but [info]melarocco has threatened to do horrible things to me if I don't do it now.

Minor things that got added:
an Actual, Honest-to-God Release Scheduletm. Which I don't have to maintain. XD
Some tiny cosmetic changes to the Mini Updates and Site Info boxes on the front page that took waaaaay too long for the end effect, but looks better than the old.
Added Livejournal to the links page. Thought it'd be nice seeing as this bit uses LJ.
and Mel snuck in a release date change for the final trilogy of the Continuing Missions. Something to do with "We can't make that! It's not done!!!!"

So it's 02:30am, I've got to watch Joey and see if it's any good or not and Mel was actually reading that over my shoulder, so those previously mentioned horrible things are probably about to take place.....

Update Time!
Hey everyone, it's that time again! Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin...

Okay, so we've just embedded this into the logs page to see what it's like, and nowls is going to have a look at ironing out the kinks, which will probably mean a major change at some point, 'cos he's like that...

I'm on his computer at the moment, and apparently his Winamp shuffle really likes Bon Jovi... Also, at some point we really need to make it so everyone can actually see all this, 'cos at the moment I'm just talking to myself...

Anyway... we've also added a Links page, with some things we think are interesting/useful.

This week's updates:

Showing off the new author this week, both stories are by Phil Damerell. Firstly, he guest writes the next Continuing Mission, in which an accident in Engineering causes problems, which are only compounded when Q arrives aboard with his son in tow, with a rather peculiar request... All is explained in Silence of the Q!

Also released this week is Jolly Good Show, Old Bean (Part 2), the conclusion of the opening Cholmondely-Smythe Year story. As the Captain tries to track down the saboteur, the Counsellor discovers that things may not be as simple as they appear... which is worrying.

Site Relaunched!
Well, after several months of hard work (stop laughing!) ST:Psycho - Version 2.0 goes live as of today, now with all new layout! This design went through several incarnations before we finally settled on this - much wasted time image editing for no good reason! (I'm not bitter...)

Some points of interest: New, swish and sparkly menus! These menus have spent the majority of their development life bright green, so it's quite nice to see them in their proper colour! The code for the menus was obtained from youngpup.net. All the images have been remade in the new site colours, and the navigation bar at the top is a masterpiece of nested tables, even if we do say so ourselves!

If you check out the top-level menu items, you'll see we also have release dates for the upcoming stories, and this is conveniently summarised in our release schedule. This is subject to change, but we'll do our best to stick to it!

Also new and improved is the Psycho 2 teaser trailer, now in extended Director's Cut format with digitally remastered enhanced special effects! Or something with less adjectives.

And for this version of the site, the Credits Page Guest Star really is random! Honest! Feel free to comment if you have any suggestions for future guest stars!

Moving on to what the site is all about, the story updates for this week, in reverse alphabetical order:

This week marks the unveiling of a new series in the Psycho universe. Ever wondered exactly what the crew got up to in the year Captain Cholmodely-Smythe was in command? Find out in The Cholmondely-Smythe Year, written by Phil Damerell. In the first story, Jolly Good Show, Old Bean (Part 1) the crew deal with their sudden time displacement, the arrival of Cholmondely-Smythe and a certain Counsellor, get involved in a dispute between the Orions and Andorians and the Klingons confuse Damerell for a warrior.

The Continuing Missions er... continue with Leisurely Pursuits, in which the Counsellor, Damerell, Stark and Jackson spend time in the holodeck, while in engineering Bleep undergoes a routine diagnostics test.

And finally, the Psychotic Academy series has a new addition! The Jackson/Stark saga begins in The unkindest cut of all. When a mistake causes him trouble at the Academy, Jackson turns to an unlikely source for help.

That's it for this week, we'll be back soon with semi-regular updates to these logs, both with technical and story information. Feel free to leave us comments, if you like!

-Melarocco & the gang.
